COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Skills Training
“Education is the most powerful weapon
which you can use to change the world.”
~ Nelson Mandela
Education has been a foundational ministry at our church from the very beginning. We believe very strongly in the positive impact that education can have in a person’s life. We are empowering youth, imparting skills for employment, and taking part in the sustainable development of Cambodia.
Basic Health Clinics
“Beloved, I pray that in every way you may prosper
and enjoy good health as your soul also prospers.”
3 John 1:2
We want to improve the quality of life for those in our community by providing free health and wellness services through medical support outreaches. These will be run by doctors from our own church and other local clinics, as well as doctors from abroad that are partnering with us. We will provide basic care and check-ups during the quarterly clinics, teach on preventative wellness care, and conduct seminars on various topics that will help in day-to-day health.
Helping the Poor
“They are to do good,
to be rich in good works,
to be generous and ready to share.”
1 Timothy 6:18
In obedience to Christ and in compassion for others, we want to live generously as we help those in need. This is done in different ways, providing for immediate needs, while keeping long-term development in mind. We have had opportunities to deliver food packages to low-income families, prepare back-to-school supplies for children, and make connections within the community to help us stay aware of needs as they arise. Crises response is also a part of this ministry. God has given us a chance to provide in creative ways, such as growing vegetables in hydroponic systems during the pandemic.
Community Development
“Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic,
love one another, be compassionate and humble.”
1 Peter 3:8
Our presence within the community extends far beyond a physical building. We want to bring improvements to the lives of those around us through service projects, in partnership with the village chiefs and various leaders.
Sports
“I believe that God made me for a purpose.
But He also made me fast,
and when I run, I feel His pleasure.”
~ Eric Liddel, Track Olympian
Faith and sports are not mutually exclusive and we are so excited to engage in our community through the soccer ministry. Sports can open doors and opportunities for ministry that might otherwise be closed. Not only does it promote physical well being and exercise, it also serves as an evangelism tool.
We are committed to, and intentional in, building relationships with youth and their families, developing skills to play, and growing character that is a reflection of Jesus. We see the importance of being disciplined in sports, the same way we are in our faith.
Dormitories
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all your soul and with all your strength.
These commandments that I give you
are to be on your hearts.
Impress them on your children.
Talk about them when you sit at home
and when you walk along the road,
when you lie down and when you get up.”
Deuteronomy 6:4-9
Our dorm ministry was birthed many years ago from a desire to provide a safe, positive living environment for youth coming into Phnom Penh from the provinces while they study at university. For many, extra finances were not available, which would often cause them to find housing in low-cost, unsafe locations. The dorm was not only a place for them to stay, it became a place for them to belong. The power of community through the love of Christ always has, and always will be, central to this ministry.
